Hello 204 families

Here is a quick review of our week in 204.

We have been using the digital library https://www.mycapstonelibrary.com/ to practice language skills. This week we reviewed what makes a narrative and how to tease out the key parts of a story. I have intentionally taken language practice slowly as students return to a very different school year. We have been doing lots of review to ensure we are ready to move into more robust projects and assignments.

We have begun discussing Design Thinking and how to use this process when coming up with solutions to problems. For example, students are creating a public art space that addresses the need to bring people together through art. They will develop their idea by keeping in mind the needs of the people using the art space they create. They will then design a 3D model of their design and add themselves digitally using a green screen. This assignment will not only introduce the idea of Design Thinking but also how empathy can be used to help develop better ideas.

The Girls Who Game has been a pleasure to lead. The students have been considerate of each other’s ideas as we try to create a safe space for the girls to collaborate. We are all looking forward to gaming as soon as we establish our group norms and learn the tools we will be using in the program. Students will be split into 3 groups and develop ideas for the culminating project in January - An Eatery of the Future. We will continue to meet 2 days a week on Days 1 and 2.

Much much more to come. Take care.
